Leí como 50 libros el año pasado, cerré el año con éste. No tenía muchas expectativas, así que viendo una lista en Goodreads y lo escogí porque pensé que era un libro de Navidad (sí, juzgue el libro por la portada). Estaba totalmente equivocada. Leí «Me Before You» (Yo antes de ti) en 2 días… sin ser lo único que hice porque trabajé y cuidé a mi bebé todos los días, pero no podía dejar de leer!

El libro es acerca de esta joven, Louisa, que no hace mucho con su vida y no tiene idea de lo que quiere hacer, sólo fluye. Su vida cambia cuando toma el trabajo como cuidadora de un cuadrapléjico, que es un joven de 35 años (si me recuerdo correctamente), quien es pesado, amargado y solo parece molestarle su prescencia y la del mundo a su alrededor, pero conforme pasa el tiempo se empiezan a llevar bien. Después de un tiempo en el trabajo, descubre que la descripción inical que le dieron del mismo era otra cosa, algo que jamás se había imaginado, la contrataron para que lo hiciera querer vivir otra vez… Pero terminó cambiandola, ya que ella es la que está confirmandose con la vida, y le da una nueva perspectiva, la reta, EL le muestra que su vida puede ser buena.

Me encantó, no me gustó el final, pero me encantó la forma en que te hace pensar si realmente estas tomando todas las oportunidades, si estas realmente viviendo o si estas, como Louisa, fluyendo. Yo, como ella, todavía no he descubierto mi pasión, mi trabajo me gusta, soy feliz haciéndolo, me gusta como me reta, pero no me hace sentir completa. Así que el libro realmente me hizo pensar si realmente estoy viviendo o si me estoy confirmando o fluyendo… Espero algún día poder responder con firmeza: VIVIENDO!

I read about 50 books last year, and I closed the 2013 with this one. I didn’t have any expectations, I was just looking at my list in Goodreads and picked it because i thought it was a book related to Christmas (yes, I did a judgement based on the book cover). I was totally wrong. I read Me Before You in 2 days… Not being the only thing I did since I have to take care of a baby and I work every day, but I just couldn’t put it down.
So, the book is about this girl, Louisa, who doesn’t do much of her life and has no idea of what she wants to do, she just flows. Her life changes when she gets a job as caregiver of a quadraplegic, who is a young man of 35 years old (if I remember correctly). He is rude, he is bitter, he just seems to dislike her and the world around them, but as time goes by they start to get along. After a while in the job she finds out that her real job description was not what she had imagined, she was hired to make him want to live again… But he ended up changing her, since she’s the one settling for life, and he gives her a new perspective, he challenges her, HE shows HER life can be good.
I loved it, didn’t love the end, but I love the way it makes you think if you’re really taking your oportunities, if you are actually LIVING or if you are just, like Louisa, flowing. I, like her, haven’t yet figured out if what I do for living is my passion, I like it, I’m happy doing it, love how it challenges me, but it doesn’t make me whole… If you know what I mean. So the book really got me thinking… do I actually LIVE or am I settling or flowing? I wish I can someday answer firmly: LIVING!

He estado de vacaciones, pero acabo de ver el trailer de la película de este libro que va a salir pronto, y tenía que escribir del libro porque «La Ladrona de Libros» es uno de mis libros favoritos de todos los tiempos. Hace un tiempo estaba obsesionada con los libros de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, realmente creo que es una de las situaciones más terribles que ha vivido el mundo, y me gusta leer esos libros para generar empatía con las personas que fueron parte. Aun no puedo entender como los humanos fueron tan terribles, cómo puede un ser humano olvidar que todos somos personas, que tenemos valor porque existimos, lo peor de todo es que estas muestras de falta de respecto a la vida se siguen repitiendo en el tiempo.
En fin, una de las razones por las que el libro me pareció increible fue porque quien lo narra es la muerte, sí, así como se escucha, algo que no sé si van a poder llevar a la vida en la película, pero voy a esperar y ver. Otra cosa que me gusta del libro es cómo muestra lo difícil que era para una parte de Alemania que no apoyaba la visión nazi, y querían ayudar, aunque esto pusiera en riesgo a su familia. No voy a escribir un resumen del libro, lo puedes conseguir en cualquier lugar, pero mi punto es que si te gusta leer, trata de leerlo antes de que salga la película, porque realmente es un libro increible que merece ser leído antes de ver la película.

I’ve been on «vacations», but I just saw that the movie of this book is about to be released, and I had to write about it. The Book Thief is one of my favorite books of all times. I used to be obsessed with WWII books, I just think is one of the most terrible situations the world has lived, and I like to read those stories to empathize with those that were part of it. I still cannot understand how we as humans could and can be so mean, how could we forget we are all human, and we all have a huge value just because we exist, worst thing is that stories that show unkindness keep being repeated over time. It’s amazing how a negative leader can make such a horrible impact in the world.
Anyway, one of the main reasons why the book is amazing because its narrator is death, yes, as you heard it, something that I don’t know if they’re gonna be able to bring to life in the movie, but I’m gonna wait and see. What I also like about the book is that it shows how hard it was for those germans that did not share Nazi’s point of view, and how they wanted to help without exposing their families to an unimaginable danger. I’m not gonna write a summary of the book, you can find thar anywhere, but my point is that if you’re a book lover, try to read it before it hits the screen, since it is such an amazing book, that it deserves to be read before watching the movie.
